The Herculaneum area is truly a place rich in thermal water resources. With rivers of hot waters, with its location on one of the most picturesque valleys of the Carpathians, Băile Herculane is one of the most valuable resorts of its kind in the world. In fact, the springs at Băile Herculane are comparable in value to those in the resorts of Vichy and Mont Dore, in France.
The whole area is dotted with: chlorurosodic thermal waters, bicarbonate, slightly sulfurous with a mineralization between 0.5-2.6 g / l and the temperature between 38.5-53.5 ° C; chlorosodium, bicarbonate, calcium thermal mineral waters with a mineralization between 0,6-3,5 g / l and a temperature between 46-56 ° C and chlorurosodic, brominated, iodised and sulphurous thermal mineral waters, which can reach 62 ° C, and mineralization between 3.87-7.93 g / l.
The over 20 natural springs of thermomineral water are strung along Cerna, on a length of almost 4 km. A feature of the mineral waters in the area? They contain hydrogen sulfide in high concentration (up to 60 mg / l). Also, in the last two decades, the area has enjoyed some improvements, and in this sense several hydrogeological drillings have been performed, thus obtaining important flows of thermal water (over 4000 m3 in 24 hours).
